Posted: August 3, 2010          Updated: September 1, 2010

Chief Nelson made the mistake of showing off his Lakers trash can in a department full of Celtics fans. Now, the can has been kidnapped and is travelling around the country on a "victory tour." Every week or so, a new picture will be posted for the Chief. Be sure to come back often so you can see where the can has been!

On Friday, July 30th, 2010, the Amherst Firefighters celebrated the retirement of Captain James Johnson after more than thirty one years of service to our community. Captain Johnson began his career working on the Town's Student Force while attending UMass in the 1970's. He later joined the Call Force before becoming a Full-Time Firefighter in 1979.

Captain Johnson was most recently assigned to Tour 1 at the Central Fire Station. He spent the last eight months of his career in the role of Acting Assistant Chief while the Town worked to fill the position of Fire Chief that was vacated in the summer of 2009.

The Amherst Firefighters Local 1764 wishes Capt. Johnson the best of luck in future endeavors. Have a happy, healthy retirement and visit us often!

Local Student Reports on AFD
November 9, 2008
A young man named Chris recently picked the history of the Amherst Fire Department for his school project. Chris and his Dad are regular visitors to our stations while they are on their bike rides. Chris was nice enough to send us a copy of his report and give us permission to share it on our site.
Great work Chris!
